What is K2 Digital Phone (VoIP)? And how does it work? VoIP (or Voice over Internet Protocol) is a great new way to make and receive phone calls using your K2 High Speed Internet connection instead of a standard phone line. K2 Digital Phone converts your phone calls into data that zips through your high-speed internet connection. Every aspect of usage is just like a regular phone call. Callers will never know you are on a digital phone line since it sounds just like a regular land line phone call. What Can K2 Digital Phone Do for You? The big advantage with K2 Digital Phone is that you can call anywhere, anytime for less money. You will also get more features, including Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, Caller ID, Voicemail Plus, 3-Way Calling, and More, at no additional charges. International calling charges are very competitive. Why is K2 Digital Phone better? K2 Digital Phone gives you great phone service and more: low monthly fees, more features for free, higher quality calls than conventional telephone service in many cases. What do I need to use K2 Digital Phone? In order to use K2 Digital Phone service, you will need a K2 High Speed Internet connection, the same phones that you are using today and the K2 Digital Phone Adapter that is provided at installation time. K2 Digital Phone can utilize your existing home phone wiring. Can I use my computer when I'm on the phone? Using K2 Digital Phone does not affect your computer usage. Continue to surf the web or send and receive email with no problem while you are talking on the phone. And your computer does not need to be turned on for K2 Digital Phone to work. We're using the internet connection through the modem, not your computer. Does it work the same as my regular phone service? Yes. The only difference is that you must use 10 digit dialing on all calls. Can I keep my current phone number? Yes. This is called "porting" a telephone number. If you want to port your number, it is critical that the phone line remain active. K2 will request that the current carrier release the number. This is normally a 10-15 business day process. There is a fee of $25 for this service. I saw on TV that 911 works differently with VoIP ? 911 calling is available to all K2 Digital Phone users and you are automatically signed up for this service at no additional cost to you. In the event of a power failure or internet outage, you would lose the ability to call 911 via your K2 Digital Phone service. Many of our customers have identified that they would use their cellular phones during such an occurrence. Can I have K2 Digital Phone and a security system? Yes, it is possible to have digital phone and a home security system. However, not all security system providers are equipped to operate through a digital phone systems. ADT will tell you that their alarm system does not work with Digital Phone Services however, on their website they have posted contradictory information. We have tried on numerous occasions to reach ADT so that we can go through their process of becoming an Qualified "Managed Facility Voice Network (MFVN)" so that we can assure that their product will work with our Digital Phone. If you are an ADT customer, we urge you when speaking with them to return our calls. For all other systems, K2 recommends that you contact your provider directly for specifics on their products and compatibility. If your security provider has a process to be qualified through, we would welcome the opportunity to participate in that process. Just let us know. Okay, this all sounds too good to be true -- tell me the gotcha's? In order for K2 Digital Phone (and all VoIP services) to function, the internet and electrical power must be in service. We strongly recommend that you utilize some form of Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS) for your K2 Digital Phone adaptor and modem. Call us for recommendations.
